THE GOOD MOTHER

Could it be? A "Mommy Poet" in the NY Times . . . or is this an April Fool's joke?

I haven't been paying much attention to poetry these days; my huge gourd of a belly is taking center stage. Signs of labor started three weeks ago and keep us in a perpetual state of anticipation. Dilating doesn't mean anything, babies come when they come, but everyone assumes that it means birth is imminent. When they see me again it is like an affront to their idea of the laws of childbirth. I want to make up a t-shirt that says:

"Yes, I'm still here."

I've made some breakthrough decisions as of late:

~Working up until your due date should be against the law.

~Online shopping has created the new phenomenom I like to call "nesting and resting."

~If you stop writing and sending out poems, then you will start getting published. A watched pot . . .

~Cloth diapering is coming back and is better than ever, buy stock in WAHM (work at home mom) companies.

~I don't care what people think anymore, really . . . what do you think about that?

~Babywearing - the latest, hottest accessory.
